The most famous opera house in the world, opened in 1778 to a design by Giuseppe Piermarini on Piazza della Scala. The horseshoe auditorium, with its four tiers of boxes, today seats 2,030 spectators beneath the great chandelier. Beside it, the Arturo Toscanini Box Foyer offers a setting of rare elegance for concerts, gala evenings and prestigious award ceremonies.
